Marcus S. Lawrence, Jr.
Tampa, Florida Professional Biography:Marcus S. Lawrence, Jr. is an "Of Counsel" member of the National Military Justice Group. Marcus received his Bachelors degree from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, and his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he was a recipient of the Reynolda Law Faculty Scholarship. After graduation from law school, he entered the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corp and attended the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island. Marcus served in several capacities while on active duty in the Navy to include: legal assistance officer, claims officer, criminal defense counsel, Staff Judge Advocate General for Amphibious Squadron Eleven (Sasebo, Japan), and Staff Judge Advocate General (TAD) for Task Force 76 (Commander, Amphibious Forces, Seventh Fleet - White Beach, Okinawa). While on active duty Marcus advised both Flag and senior Field Grade Officers on law of military operations matters, and represented clients charged with violations of the UCMJ at Article 15, courts martial, and administrative separation proceedings. Marcus was twice designated Navy Legal Service Office Pacific, Detachment Pearl Harbor's Junior Officer of the Quarter, and received two Navy Achievement Medals for his service. After leaving active duty military service in 2004, Marcus worked for a regional defense litigation firm, Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. prior to forming the law firm of Thorn | Lawrence, P.L. in Tampa, Florida. Ninety percent (90%) of Marcus' practice is devoted to litigation and his practice with the National Military Justice Group is solely concentrated in the area of military law. Marcus is a member of the Florida and Alabama bars and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the Northern District of Alabama, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He represents clients in military law matters internationally and throughout the United States.
